Frost Faires, or How to Enjoy the Little Ice Age

The River Thames in London froze solid at least 26 times during the years of 1400-1814 AD. And when it froze, Londoners made the most of it, and the “Frost Fairs” developed. Come learn about how the Tudors partied hearty on the ice!

No fees or limits.

Glass Cutting for All Levels
Instructor: Moll Sotherden
11am-noon, Classroom B

Never picked up a glasscutter before? Have lots of experience cutting glass but want some tips and techniques to take it to the next level?  Come on by to try a period style glasscutter.

Limited to ages 16 and older.

Knitting in the Middle Ages and Renaissance
Instructor: Mistress Milesent Vibert
2-3pm, Classroom A

Did Durer's wife knit him cozy socks for his trip to the Netherlands? Did Richard the Lionhearted own a stocking cap? This class discusses the surprisingly recent invention of knitting in the Middle Ages and what sorts of items were knit and by whom.

No fees or limits, though handouts will be in limited supply

The Kosode, Or, What Do You Mean My Kimono’s Not Period?
Instructor: Lady Cordell Howe
10-11am, Classroom B

This class will explain how the kimono you have is different from the period Kosode. We’ll also be learning how to make/buy/modify the Kosode and many of its period accoutrements. Also we’ll learn how to put it all together! I will provide information for men’s and women’s garb so everyone is welcome.

Fee: $1 donation appreciated for physical handout.
Class limit: The first 15 will get handouts (I will have an e-copy available for later viewing/download), but I don’t mind teaching more!

Kumihimo
Instructor: THL Aelfwyn Elswith
1-2pm, Classroom A

This is the craft of Japanese cord making. The class is hands on; you will be making a cord and taking home a kumihimo frame.

Limit: 10 kits, cost: $2

Masks:  Part I

Masks offer an opportunity for creative expression; they can transform your face into something mysterious, terrifying, or humorous. We have an array of items for you to use. Come and create!

This class is for our younger members, 12 years old and younger.  Participants 8 years and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Masks offer an opportunity for creative expression; they can transform your face into something mysterious, terrifying, or humorous. We have an array of items for you to use. Come and create!

This workshop is for the older members of our group, teenagers and adults. Please, no children under 13 years of age.

Organizing a Successful Feast
Instructor: Lord Godfrey Thacker of Northumberland
10-11am, Classroom A

Planning ahead and pre-prep maximizes the likelihood that the day of the feast runs smooth. Simple tips on organizing and prepping will be presented, then a round-table discussion concerning your experiences both good and bad.

No fee, however, donations to cover cost of handouts will be accepted.

SCA 101

This class gives a brief overview into the who, what, where, and why that will help you get the most out of your foray into the Current Middle Ages.

Succeeding at the Middle Kingdom A&S Faire
Instructor: Mistress Milesent Vibert
3-4pm, Classroom A

A former Kingdom A&S Champion gives tips for making sure you are prepared and get the most out of your experience at the Middle Kingdom Faire. The class will touch on Documentation and the Faire process

No fee, no limit, though handouts will be limited. If I run out of handouts, I am happy to email them after the fact.
