General Information

We’re looking forward to another year with a jam-packed merchant row and throngs of shoppers. We do everything we can to make your experience at NOWM pleasurable and profitable. The Best Merchant prize and Roam NOWM will return, and the Village Green will once again be the center of non-martial activites. If you can think of any way your humble merchant coordinator can do more, please contact him.

  • The merchant area will once again be located on the Village Green, the shady area around the permanent pavilion just inside the main gate. This is also the location of all non-martial activities, and it is just steps away from the battlefield on the main road to the camping areas. A great location!
  • The site opens officially at 3 PM on Friday. If you need an earlier setup, please contact the merchant coordinator. You must be completely set up and your vehicle parked by 10am Saturday. The site closes at 3 PM Sunday – everyone (staff included) must be off site by that hour. Activities will begin on Friday afternoon and evening; you are encouraged to open on Friday, and you are encouraged to stay open late on Saturday, when the pavilion will be the site of a bardic competition and bardic tavern, and to reopen Sunday morning if you wish. Note that Court takes place in the pavilion, and quiet hours must be observed during that time. See the Populace Merchant page for the posted hours.
  • Merchants may camp with their merchant tents – only one camping tent, please. There is a space provided in the merchant information sheet for footprint information. Note that the site rules do not allow campers or RVs – tent camping only.

There are two steps:

  1. Fill in the Merchant Information Form and send it in. See the second page of that form for how and where to send it.
  2. Register through Troll, for both site admission and merchant fee

Fees

The merchant fee is $5.

Merchants, like any other attendees, are responsible for paying site admission fees and a non-member surcharge, if applicable.

NOTE: All merchants must register through Troll. Do not send your event registration or merchant fee to the merchant coordinator. Only the Merchant Information Form itself (and no money) should go directly to the merchant coordinator.

Roam NOWM Scavenger Hunt

Each year, to encourage the populace to visit our merchants, we sponsor the Roam NOWM Scavenger Hunt. The attendees are given a list of questions, one for each merchant. They must visit each merchant to get the answer to the question. (We’ll get them into your tent – it’s up to you to sell ‘em.)

  • About the questions. So, think of a very cool, fun question. It can be about you or your business; or something you know about the SCA or the Middle Ages that most people don’t know; or it can really be anything at all.Whether or not you feel you are able to donate a prize, you will be included in the Scavenger Hunt, so please provide a question. If you don’t provide a question, one will be prepared for you!
  • About the prizes. We ask that each merchant donate a prize, but it’s not a requirement of merchanting. The prizes need not be costly. Obviously, though, the more cool prizes we can offer (and display) the more people will want to participate in the game.If you choose to donate, and can identify the prize in advance, we will advertise it on the web site. The prizes (with donor identified) will be on display at the Magic Carpet Kavehane during the day Saturday. Any unclaimed prizes will be used for future prize drawings (giving due credit to the donor, of course).

The information on Roam NOWM from the populace perspective can be found on the populace’s merchant page, so you may want to review that as well.

“Best Merchant” Prizes

Again this year, we’re inviting the populace to vote on their favorite merchants. One small and one large merchant (small = under 200 square feet) will each be awarded $25 – two admissions and your merchant fee. So bring out your most glorious wares, and prepare to SMILE!
