Tournament a Plaisance

Hear ye, Dukes, Counts, Knights, squires and good men of coate armor. I make known to you a deed of arms that will be performed in the Barony of the Cleftlands. A Tournament a Plaisance for ransom, that on the twenty seventh day of February, on the feast of Saint Baldomerus, at the Regular Event in Cleftlands, Dancing with the Tsars, a round robin tournament will be fought for the pleasure of Their Majesties and the assembled gallery. Combatants are required to present a ransom equal to their station; each combatant then will face every other combatant once until a victor is decided. The victor shall receive the tournament prize and choose also one ransom from among those assembled. The remaining combatants will choose each one ransom in the order of victories, ties decided by casting lots.

The field is limited, the Marshal in Charge deciding the total number of combatants when the list opens.

And by virtue of a Royal pardon of arms, surety will be given to all foreign Knights and squires who wish to come to the said tournament and to remain and spend as many days before the festival and afterward, with safe conduct assured from our sovereign liege lord, Tsar Nikolai, King by right of arms of the Middle Kingdom.
Your servant,

Sergeant James ap Llywelyn, squire and dragon slayer, Cleftlands

Armored Classes

  • Common Modern Reproduction Errors – How to better your 13-15 century kit by avoiding common pitfalls of reproducing armor. We will also give you a list of resources to help you document your armor. (Instructor: Sir Krisztian Von Atzinger, Location: Armored Fighting Area TBD, Time: 10:00 AM )
  • i33 Forms – The practice of historical martial arts is good for mind, body and soul. The mind is improved through concentration and the development of theoretical understanding. The body through healthy and varied exercise. The soul through the constant striving for perfect form, the intellectual and moral honesty the Art demands, and through the depth of personal interaction that fencing with your peers creates. 1) Techniques accurately recreated from the sources (which also requires in-depth knowledge of their historical context) 2) A complete and thoroughly consistent theory of their application 3) A system for developing the requisite technical skills (technical drills) 4) A system for developing the ability to apply the theory (tactical drills) 5) Supporting training such as joint-strengthening exercises, so that the techniques may be done  without injury. 6) A safe environment for training.
