Scheduled classes

Bardic Boot Camp - taught by Llywelyn Ap Glendyr
Soldiers go to boot camp to learn basic disciplines like marching and shooting straight, but too often Bards skip the step of knowing their essential tools. By contrasting passages from Shakespeare and Beowulf, we'll explore some Bardic Basics - the use of rhythm, sound patterns, and imagery - which influence meaning. Be prepared to tell a short story (not in verse - an Aesop fable would be perfect).
4 pm? Bard-Off Bardic Brawl - moderated by Llywelyn Ap Glendyr, Zsof and Torvaldr

At first it was a duel - the Welsh Nightmare against the Big Bad Bard from out of the West. Now The Balladeer from Brendoken has thrown her gauntlet in, and it's a Bardic Brawl. Come one, come all. Bring your best stuff, and we'll duke it out.

The winner will be chosen by an initially impartial but easily bribed panel. The prize? Oh, only a copy of Beowulf ... signed by the author!!! Rules? In a bardic brawl? No rules!

Well, okay, there are rules:

Bring two short pieces (five minutes total) in any Bardic media (spoken, sung, played). One should be comic and one serious. At least one should be period or in period style; the other may include filking, etc. Extra credit for original pieces on Cleftands history.

Egg-citing Dyes - taught by Juliane Bechaumpe
The fokllore, plants and tradition surrounding colored eggs generally associated with Easter and the vernal equinox. The class includes handouts on plant dyes suitable for making Easter Eggs, as well as opportunities to "play" with sample dyes. An apron or other means of protecting garb is highly recommended. Children welcome ONLY if accompanied by an adult. We will be working with boiling water and heat sources.
