The Barony of the Cleftlands is the official chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA) serving Cuyahoga County, including Cleveland, Ohio. As part of this international non-profit educational organization, the Barony is dedicated to the research and re-creation of the arts, culture, and martial traditions of pre-17th-century Europe. Through immersive experiences, hands-on learning, and historical reenactment, members explore everything from medieval combat and craftsmanship to costuming, cooking, music, and courtly life.
As an educational outreach organization, the Barony of the Cleftlands is available to provide interactive demonstrations for schools, scouting groups, community festivals, libraries, and other venues interested in historical education. These demonstrations are tailored to suit the audience and setting, provided there is adequate space and safety accommodations. With a focus on both authenticity and engagement, our members are passionate about sharing their knowledge and skills with the public in a way that is both informative and inspiring
Consider the following items when arranging a demo:
- Please provide at least 30 days notice so we may try to staff and organize a quality demonstration for your organization.
- The Barony of the Cleftlands will not confirm a demo if we cannot secure sufficient representation. We also reserve the right to cancel all demonstrations.
- Most of our members are working professionals, making it sometimes difficult, but not impossible, to accommodate daytime demonstrations. Evening or weekend demos are generally easier to staff than daytime ones. Daytime demos may have limited scope.
- For fighting demonstrations, we require at least a 25′ by 25′ space (list) for fighting – this is a safety requirement for both combatants and spectators.
