Artisans Row

  • Demonstration of Period Activities: From singing, to fighting, to weaving and cooking. Do you have a period activity that you can demonstrate? Stop by Artisan Row and demonstrate any period activity and be entered in RUM’s Learned in the SCA competition for June. [Artisans Row, Village Green, 11 AM to 5 PM]
  • Fiber Arts for Youth: Youth are invited into Artisans Row to learn more about where our fabrics come from. From both animals to plants, kids (with their parents) are invited to experience fibers in their earliest forms, to processing, spinning and weaving. A live rabbit will be onsite for a little “hands on” fur preparation, children (and adults) with allergies or asthma should be prepared. [Artisans Row, Village Green, 12 PM]
  • Flax-Processing: How to process flax straw from start to spinning. Including a look at flax in its original form, the messy process it takes to turn it in thread, and finally a spun linen item. [Artisans Row, Village Green, 11 AM to 5 PM]
  • Intro to the Forge: Come learn the basics of metalwork and actually get to try your hand making some simple blacksmithing items such as s-hooks, j-hooks, nails and the like. Perfect for beginners and more experienced blacksmiths. No cost. [Artisans Row, Village Green, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM]
  • Leather Art Demonstrations: Come check out Leather arts from construction, to tooling, to waxing. All will be demonstrated throughout the day within Artisan rows. Scrap leather will be available to learn some new stitching techniques, stamping or carving. The leather artisans will also be available for some simple leather armor repairs. [Artisans Row, Village Green, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM]
  • Medieval Betting: Come place (or collect) a bet on activities that are going on at NOWM. From the torchlight tourneys, to the Shakespearean puppet competition, and especially the bocce tournament, come place a bet at Artisan’s row and get paid out in special 50 year NOWM coinage and other winnings. Table will also be open for anyone who wants to come play or teach period games. [Artisans Row, Village Green, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM]
  • Out, Damned Spot!: An Informal Demonstration of Medieval Laundering. What did people use to clean and iron their clothing in the days before modern detergents and electric appliances? And how well did it work? Join us for medieval laundry day as we try some period techniques then compare the “before” and “after.” [Artisans Row, Village Green, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM]

Bardic Schedule

  • First Annual Shakespearean Puppet Competition: The Bard’s works will never be the same. Marionettes, Shadow puppets, socks and silliness liable to be the order of the day.   • The Magic Carpet Kavehane: Coffee and sweets for a song–or story–or dance–or tune– join us for an afternoon of fellowship and fun. [Merchants Row, Village Green, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM]
  • Music Under the Trees: Traveling minstrels can be sighted and heard from Artisans Row to the Pierogi Hut– enjoy their gift of music as you shop, snack, visit with our talented artisans and gifted merchants, or visit with friends. [Merchants & Artisans Row, Village Green, All Day]
  • The 6th Annual Northern Oaken Bardic Lagniappe of Excellence (NOBLE) Competition: Each Barony or Shire in Northern Oaken chooses a Champion, who competes for the coveted NOBLE Prize.
